SEBx, the innovation hub of SEB, is starting a number of initiatives to bring state-of-the art Computer Science and AI research to real-world impact through solving complex business problems. As we are starting to build our Applied Research lab, we will soon publish an application call to solicit project ideas with the potential to disrupt or have a deep impact on the banking business.

In January, SEBx attended the WASP Winter Conference in Norrköping – one of the key annual events gathering researchers and industrial partners participating in the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program.

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, refers to computer systems that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence such as understanding natural language, recognising images, and making decisions. Recent advances in AI include the development of powerful language models capable of understanding and generating human-like text; breakthroughs in computer vision with improved object recognition and image generation; and progress in reinforcement learning for training agents to achieve high performance in games and robotics.

Is AI a technology we can use successfully, or is there cause for concern? Is Sweden keeping up with the development, and more specifically how are Sweden’s banks utilizing AI? On June 28th some of our own experts, along with leaders from our network, will be giving their points of view on the present state of AI and banking.

The idea of SEBx was first formed in 2017, with the aim of exploring new technologies and business models as an independent innovation studio within SEB Group. Though the idea remains, some changes have been made in connection to one of SEBx’s initial projects recently developing into a separate business unit - SEB Embedded. What does this change actually mean for the future of SEBx?
